I find inspiration everywhere: art, design, people, nature, research, adventure. I found a home in White Salmon, and the greater Columbia River Gorge, after years of wanderlust. Its particular balance of connection to solitude and nature to culture continue to shape how I live, work and see the greater world.
Before jewelry there was sculpture: bronze, iron, steel, wood and stone… all in large format. I was enamored by creating three dimensional forms within the first hour of my first 3D design class. I made pieces that took up space and asked to be a part of our lives. The tactile materials also carried an invitation in themselves asking me to follow into somewhere not necessarily expected.
After earning my degrees in Sculpture and Art History, my attention shifted from these large forms to smaller more intimate objects. I learned traditional metalsmithing and modern jewelry making techniques through apprenticeships with master crafts people and gemologists.
While the scale of my work changed, the questions of space and intimacy did not. Process and design drive each piece combining time honored, old world techniques & craftsmanship with a contemporary aesthetic. Every piece organically evolves from a design created to accentuate balance, originality and timelessness.
